Every year we take in many long-ears that need extensive veterinary, farrier, diet care and a lot of TLC. We give the long ears everything we possibly can to ensure they are healthy for adoption and can find loving, deserving approved adoptive homes.

When you make a donation to SYA you are ensuring each animal at SYA receives:

• A winter blanket that fits them appropriately to keep them warm in winter if needed.
  
• A specialized diet of minerals and vitamins tailored to their exact individual needs.
  
• Shelter with soft bed of quality shavings to keep them dry and their feet healthy.
  
• 24/7 hay around the clock.
  
• Medication for older animals who are long in the tooth and need some help staying comfortable.
• Balanced barefoot hoof care specialized to the needs of donkeys.

Providing this quality care at SYA cost $15 per day PER donkey or mule!

We are fully dedicated to ensuring each animal gets their hot mashes on time, that they get the care and comfort they deserve while being rehabbed at SYA. Our monthly giving campaign called ‘Take a Long Ear to Lunch’ is one way you can become directly involved with our organization. Save Your Ass Long Ear Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non profit dedicated to rescuing, rehabbing, retraining, and rehoming unwanted or neglected donkeys and mules. The Mission of Save Your Ass Long Ear Rescue is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home donkeys and mules in need. We also provide educational opportunities that create awareness of the human/animal bond, as well as the specific needs of long ears. We were incorporated officially as a 501(c)(3) in 2007 and place between 20 to 40 animals per year into loving adoptive homes.

Why Donkeys?

We often hear the phrase, ‘it’s just a donkey’, or ‘I didn’t realize there was a need for a donkey rescue.' Once you learn more about donkeys and their stoic, loving nature, you'll get the donkey bug, and will notice donkeys wherever you go! Donkeys are highly intelligent, sentient beings who bond very strongly with other donkeys and their care takers. Donkeys deserve recognition for their grounding presence, and their therapeutic abilities with people. But unfortunately, because donkeys are so misunderstood a lot of them are neglected due to a lack of awareness of their specific needs. In turn they are forgotten in pastures or left on sold property, sent to kill pens when they are no longer valued for the loving beings they are.

Donkeys are looked at as less than because it is believed that donkeys can not preform as a horse can, but the truth is, donkeys can do anything a horse can and more, but they shouldn't have to. We don't base any animals worth on what they can do for us, these animals have value because of who they are, we believe they're incredible, individual beings and they deserve care as such.
